Description: Community-based participatory research (CBPR) is an equity-focused research method that seeks to involve and empower community partners in collectively developed research, but initiatives often fail after funding ends or academic partners leave. This talk will describe a CBPR partnership in which members of a family advocacy organization were trained to conduct community-based research and ultimately assumed full ownership of their research initiative. It will illustrate the efforts taken to build capacity and sustainability within the organization and will highlight the perspectives of the community partners who experienced this process.
