Description: What can US presidents actually do, and how much do they do it? This talk will introduce a new data set of more than 100,000 acts of policymaking that presidents have taken on their own, without Congressional approval. Through computational text analysis, we study this corpus to build a new understanding of presidential power.
Bio: Aaron Kaufman is an Assistant Professor of Political Science at New York University Abu Dhabi, and an Affiliated Assistant Professor of Politics and Data Science at New York University. He received his PhD in Government in 2019 from Harvard University.
