Who It’s For: Advanced CER researchers and learners seeking a deep dive into points of tension in community-university research partnerships.
Why We Love It: Universities, situated in knowledge-based economies, may have agendas that exist in tensions with the core tenets of CER. This article offers a comprehensive exploration of the evolution of CER and the challenges inherent to modern community-university research partnerships. This is a provocative article that questions the utilitarian focus of much academic research and the risk that CER co-opted to upholds rather than challenge prevailing power dynamics. This assimilation, in turn, diminishes the political intent of CER, which ultimately seeks to contest power structures and broader issues of social justice.
